Short answer. Women in Khammam who have never had a Pap smear or HPV test, or whose last test was several years ago, can book cervical screening before 2027. Screening usually starts in the mid-20s to 30s and is repeated on the interval your result allows. Dr. N. Jyoshna Peddineni does this as part of a well-woman visit at Nehrunagar. Bleeding after sex, bleeding between periods, or bleeding after menopause should be seen without waiting for a routine smear date. Call +91 93472 34197.
What the test is looking for
Cervical screening looks for virus-related changes on the cervix years before a cancer would cause pain. A Pap smear reads the cells. An HPV test looks for the virus types most linked to those changes. Dr. Jyoshna Peddineni chooses the test that fits your age and any previous reports. A normal result is a reason to repeat on schedule, not a reason to ignore new bleeding.
The sample takes a few minutes during a speculum examination. You can ask for a chaperone. Mild spotting afterwards can happen. The report, not the discomfort on the day, is what decides the next date.
- Never screened, and you are in your late 20s or older
- Last smear or HPV test more than three to five years ago
- A previous abnormal result without a documented follow-up
- Bleeding after sex
- A new discharge or pelvic pain that has lasted more than a few weeks
Who can book in late November
Come when you are not on a heavy period day if you can, because blood can make the sample harder to read. A light day is often still acceptable. Say if you are pregnant. Screening in pregnancy is done only when there is a separate reason.
The same visit can cover breast symptoms, period problems and contraception. That is a useful way to close 2026 if your last well-woman check was missed. The clinic is at 11-4-3/2, Beside old CPI office, Nehru Nagar, Khammam 507001.
Results and the next step
Most results need only a repeat after the interval you are given. An unclear or abnormal result means a closer look, sometimes with a camera examination of the cervix. It does not mean a cancer diagnosis. Bring old reports if you have them so tests are not repeated without need.

Questions patients ask
Direct answers for this topic. Your own plan still depends on a consultation.
Screening is generally offered from the mid-20s or around 30, depending on the test used and your history. If you have never been screened and you are already older than that, book now rather than waiting for a birthday milestone. Your doctor will set the repeat interval from the result.
No. It is a cervix test. Ovarian cancer, uterine cancer and breast cancer are not diagnosed by a smear. New bleeding, a breast lump, bloating that persists, or pain still need their own assessment.
A heavy flow can spoil the sample, so another day is better. If the bleeding is unexpected, do not postpone the visit itself. The doctor can examine you and decide whether the smear should be taken that day or after the bleeding settles.
