Festive Season Pregnancy Care in Khammam: Food, Travel and Check-ups

Short answer. Pregnant women in Khammam can take part in Dussehra on 20 October 2026 and the weeks before Diwali on 8 November if they keep antenatal appointments, eat freshly cooked food, drink enough water and carry their pregnancy records while travelling. Book the next check-up before the holiday so blood pressure, sugar and scan reviews are not pushed back. Dr. N. Jyoshna Peddineni sees antenatal patients in Nehrunagar from 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

Book the check-up before the holiday, not after

October pregnancies in Khammam often collide with family travel. If a growth scan, glucose test or blood-pressure review falls in the Dussehra week, move it earlier rather than skipping it. High-risk pregnancies — gestational diabetes, hypertension, previous caesarean, twins or reduced baby movements — should not be left until after Diwali.

Carry your antenatal card, scan reports and a list of medicines. If you are visiting family outside Khammam, note the nearest obstetric unit before you leave. Reduced movements, leaking fluid, bleeding or a severe headache are reasons to be seen the same day, even during a festival.

Food that is safer in the festive weeks

Home-cooked meals are easier to trust than food that has sat out at a gathering. Choose dal, vegetables, curd, fruit and whole grains. Sweets are fine in small portions if your glucose is normal. If you have gestational diabetes, ask for a festive-week meal plan instead of guessing.

Avoid unpasteurised milk products, undercooked meat or eggs, and chaat or juices left in the heat. Wash fruit yourself. Drink water through the day. Khammam afternoons in October are still warm enough to cause dehydration, which can trigger contractions or dizziness.

  • Eat smaller meals if heartburn is worse after rich food
  • Keep iron and calcium supplements going unless your doctor has paused them
  • Skip alcohol and smoking areas at gatherings
  • Stand and walk between long sitting periods at functions

Travel between Khammam and family towns

Short car or train trips are usually reasonable in an uncomplicated pregnancy if you can walk every hour or two, wear a seat belt with the lap strap under the bump, and stop if you feel unwell. After 36 weeks, or earlier if you have placenta praevia, bleeding or high blood pressure, ask before you travel.

A written note of your blood group, weeks of pregnancy and hospital phone number is more useful than a new scan done only for travel. The clinic number is +91 93472 34197. Emergency care at the hospital is available 24×7.

Questions patients ask

Direct answers for this topic. Your own plan still depends on a consultation.

Many women with a straightforward pregnancy can travel in the second trimester and early third trimester if they walk regularly, stay hydrated and carry their records. After 36 weeks, or sooner with bleeding, high blood pressure, placenta praevia or a previous preterm birth, check with your obstetrician before you go.

Limit food that has been left out, unpasteurised sweets or milk, undercooked meat and very sugary portions if you have gestational diabetes. Freshly cooked home food, fruit you have washed, and safe drinking water are the safer pattern through Dussehra and Diwali.

Go the same day for vaginal bleeding, leaking fluid, severe headache, visual change, a sudden swelling of the face or hands, fever, regular contractions, or a clear drop in the baby's movements. Festival plans can wait. Those symptoms cannot.
